Sanyo Introduces Two Waterproof HD Camcorders: The VPC-WH1 and VPC-CA9

Sanyo expanded its line of high definition waterproof camcorders today with two new models. The VPC-CA9 will replace last year's VPC-CA8 as the new upright, "pistol-grip" model, submersible to 1.5 meters. The VPC-WH1 is a new model in a horizontal form factor, and can go down to 3 meters. Both record in 1280 x 720P are available in a variety of colors.

The VPC-WH1 offers a 30x optical zoom, 2-megapixel still photo capture, and Sanyo's new noise reduction technology. Video can be exported through an HDMI connection, also a first for Sanyo, as is the new long battery life, with an expected 180 minutes of record time. The WH1 also has a 2.5-inch LCD and Face Detection for up to 12 faces.

The VPC-CA9 may not be able to play in the same depths as the WH1, but the video quality may be more enticing. The camcorder features a 9-megapixel CMOS sensor, allowing for native still photos of the same size, or 12-megapixel interpolated images. The LCD and Face Detection features are the same as the WH1, but the CA9 has a no HDMI or extended life battery.
