The Toshiba H20 has some great features including a 5MP CMOS Sensor, a 5x optical zoom lens and 4x digital zoom, Video Stabilisation, Red-eye Reduction, Scene Support; Auto, Skin, Night, Backlight, Black/White, Classic and Negative. A high definition resolution of 1440x1080 comes extremely close to the usual high definition resolution and records at 30fps. Toshiba Camileo H20 review

When the first HD camcorders started making their way onto the market, it was inconceivable that there would ever be a device that ordinary consumers would buy. HD camcorders, it seemed, were forever to be the domain of enthusiastic home cinema buffs.

But then everyone started buying HD TVs, and suddenly HD belonged to everyone, and, at just £169 in UK, the Camileo H20 is a perfect example. It’s not the cheapest HD camcorder out there, but it’s certainly not too far from being.

Toshiba Camileo Pro HD reviewed

Gadgetrepublic has a short review of the Toshiba Camileo Pro HD.

Offering 720p digital video and 5 megapixel still-image photography, it also has 3X optical and 4X digital zoom. This means you can record hours of video and take still pictures of up to 8 megapixel resolution and then view them on the TFT LCD screen.

For the most part the images in the screen display are pretty good, although I found that if you moved your focal point too fast, like on a good night out, things got a little fuzzy.

Toshiba Camileo S10 again

Jose Fermoso's Wired blog here has a post discussing the Camileo S10, which claims to be the first mini camcorder to offer 1080 HD video recording. It's not, the Samsung HMX-R10 will also record 1080p HD video.

In 2008, the Flip Mino camcorder took a firm hold of the mini portable camcorder market and made a nice, plumpy $100 million profit. Toshiba’s newest minicam, the Camileo S10, may not turn out to be that successful (it's easier when you build a new cheapie market all to yourself), but it appears to be a worthy competitor.

This year, several different companies are attempting to challenge the Flip's nice run with clones focusing on different aspects of the portable phenomenon, either with distinct design differences, or key spec upgrades. The Camileo S10, released this month in Europe and Asia, follows both of these trends.

This Japanese beauty may be the new buzz along the Samsung HMX-R10, Kodak Zi6, Flip Mino HD, the Sony Webbie and the other contenders.

Toshiba Camileo S10 - The New Challenger

UK-based site TechRadar says:

The most impressive camcorder released is the 5MP Camileo S10. It has a 4x zoom, 2.5-inch LCD flip screen and expandable flash memory up to 32GB. The S10 is a tiny camcorder offering Full HD recording on a chassis that is around the size of a mobile phone. It costs just £129.99 in the UK.

It's just 11mm thick, so is one of the most compact cameras on the market. Toshiba is hoping it will stop people taking movies on their phones.

check out the article here.

Stuff.tv says:

The S10 is really the flagship cammie. It comes packing full 1080p support, records onto SD and can upload directly to YouTube just like the Flip Mino and Creative Vado. It also crams in a 4x digitial zoom, 5MP stills and HDMI support.

Tosh reckons it can kill off video on camphones, thanks to its slimline body and £129 price tag. We're not sure about that, but it is one killer piece of kit.

Toshiba Camileo H20 and P30 HD camcorders announced

Both shoot 1080p footage to SD card, have 5x optical zoom and HDMI connections for putting your 'director's cut' up on your TV. On the looks front, each has a red Camileo tag on the screen edge, and is clothed in a Midnight Blue gloss finish. Classy.

There's also a new Night Mode for better results when the sun goes down - perfect for the party animal.

The H20 has a 3in LCD screen and a barrel-shaped form, while the slightly cheaper P30 has a 2.5in screen and a quick-draw pistol grip shape.

Toshiba Camileo H10 reviewed

From the review:

For a start, the device comes with just 64MB of memory built in, which is enough to test things are working and very little else. So you will need to factor in an SD card from the outset, although that's hardly a major expense these days. The H10 has four different recording options. The headline act is HD, although this is 1,280 x 720, not Full HD. There is also a D1 option that operates at 720 x 480, plus VGA at 640 x 480, and QVGA at 320 x 240 to choose from. All run at 30 frames per second, however, rather than the European-friendly 25 frames per second.

At its top setting, the H10 uses a 4Mbits/sec data rate, which isn't particularly high, even for 720p resolution instead of Full HD. So a 2GB SD card will be enough for a little over an hour of video. Considering 2GB cards can be had for little more than a quid these days, we wonder why Toshiba didn't just bung one in the box for good measure.
